Clown Angelfish (Pterophyllum scalare “Clown”) 

A selectively bred color variant of the common freshwater angelfish (P. scalare), the Clown Angelfish is known for its: Striking cloud-like black patches over a silvery or white body—each individual displays a unique pattern 

Physical Traits & Size

• Grows to approximately 6 inches (15 cm) in length and height 
• Tall and laterally flattened body—classic picking for species tanks with sufficient height 

Tank Requirements

• Minimum tank size: 30 gal (~115 L) for one or a pair; 55 gal+ is ideal for community setups 
• Tall tank preferred to accommodate fin height 
• Heavily planted environments work best, with driftwood or rock formations and gentle water flow 

Water Parameters

Diet & Feeding

• Omnivorous: accepts dry, frozen, and live foods
• A mix of high-quality flakes, pellets, frozen brine shrimp, bloodworms, etc., helps maintain health and vibrancy 

Temperament & Tank Mates

• Generally peaceful, but can become territorial during spawning 
• Best housed with other peaceful, medium/large community fish
• Avoid pairing with small shrimp or delicate invertebrates—larger shrimp or snails may cohabit in large tanks

Breeding & Behavior

• Can shoal if kept in groups
• Breeding is possible in a well-maintained tank, though they may show aggression when protecting fry 

To successfully keep Clown Angelfish:

• Provide a tall, planted tank of 55 gal+
• Maintain stable water parameters (neutral pH, moderate temperature)
• Offer a balanced omnivorous diet
• Choose compatible, peaceful tank mates, avoiding small invertebrates
• Expect potential territorial behavior around breeding times
